Resistance and Self-Doubt

The creative block that is resistance can be defined as an invisible enemy that is not scene nor heard, but can be felt. Steven Pressfield says, “It’s aim is to shove us away, distract us, prevent us from doing our work." Key thing to remember is resistance is internal. It may seem like it is found among peers or in the workplace, but it originates inside of us. It ferments inside our hearts, and waits for the opportune moment to strike, and it strikes hard. Resistance is an insidious thing and will prevent us, at all costs, from doing what we want to do. Resistance is a liar and a crook. It says nothing out of good conscience. It cannot be reasoned with, there is no thoughts behind its eyes. All it wants is your destruction. Do not try and commune with it, resistance will stab you in the back whenever it sees the opportunity.

Resistance is a force of nature. It has no ulterior motives, no driving force, no partiality. It sees progress and knocks it down. That is it. Resistance is a force that is unwavering and, as a result, can be anticipated. Meaning more important the action, the stronger it pushes back. Remember this, as resistance is a objective force that can and will attack at any given moment of progress. Resistance is a universal monster. It attacks anything and everyone. You are not alone. “Everyone who has a body experiences resistance." Resistance will never stop and it plays for keeps. Fear will always hunt you and it wants to keep you. Only you can break the binding chains it holds you in. It only wants to prevent us from achieving greater heights. It does not want someone that gives up because its job is finished. And you bet it is at its strongest when we get closer to that goal. Its hatred for progress and dreams drives it forward. Its favorite dish is self-doubt and worry. We worry the most when we get closest to the goals we have and the dreams that become more vivid. We must remember we live this life together, we share pain, our struggle is real, and we can help each other get through it. My art is my escape, but it can also be a limiter.
